The Alabama Fusion turned in a terrific E16 showing during 2018 season, ultimately obtaining an automatic bid to this season's circuit. Even after last year's success, there were unanswered questions as to whether or not the Fusion would have what it takes to compete at the 17-and-under level.
After four games, Alabama's EYBL affiliate removed all doubt.
The Fusion took the circuit by storm in Atlanta, riding a talented, well-coached lineup to a 4-0 record against a very difficult schedule.
The best aspect about head coach Robert Shannon's Fusion squad? Balance. Shannon saw six of his rotation players average in double-figures; Mark Sears, Jadan Coleman, Jamel King, Tommy Murr, Colby Jones, and Tyler Lang. Throw in RJ Perry and Austin Harvell, and the Fusion has eight players averaging between 7 and 12.5 points per game.
The Fusion looked great all session long, but their best performance came against 8th-ranked AOT. In a 31-point win, Alabama combined to dish out an EYBL-record 36 assists en route to a 120-89 win. Aside from the blowout win, the Fusion showcased the ability to win close games. They won a back-and-forth battle in the opener against Team Durant and closed the session with a two-point win over Brad Beal Elite.
