The first day of action is capped by a what should be a tremendous matchup between two East Coast teams.
New York-based Team Scan is playing is a newcomer to the EYBL and will be tested right off the bat. Scan is led by Bronx-native Chris McCullough, a power forward who is ESPN’s fifth-ranked prospect in 2014. The Syracuse commit, checking in at 6-foot-10, 245 pounds, utilizes tremendous length and athleticism and will look to dominate the paint on both ends of the floor.
Joining McCullough in Team Scan’s frontcourt are 2015 prospects F Thomas Bryant (ESPN, No. 15) and PF Cheick Diallo (ESPN, No. 24). Diallo is fresh off a 12 point, 8rebound performance in the Jordan Brand International Game and he looks to continue his ascent up the 2015 rankings with a strong showing in the EYBL. At 6-10, 6-9, and 6-9 respectively, McCullough, Bryant and Diallo form one of the most formidable frontlines in the EYBL.
The 6-5 Pinson is a highly-touted prospect who is on the radar of just about every high-major program. He looks to improve on a 14.8 ppg average in 2012.
They will need to counter Team Scan’s inside attack with speed and quickness. Mitchell, a Wake Forest recruit, will pair with fellow PG and EYBL veteran Jaquel Richmond (Rivals, No. 129). Richmond had averages of 7.4 ppg and 2.8 apg last season in the EYBL. The two guards will look to control tempo and gain an advantage in transition.
Prediction: Team Scan in a tight one.
