There is no doubt about it, Markell Johnson is one of Ohio's most electrifying scorers.
Although, if you were you ask Johnson, he'd politely ask you to change the word "Ohio" with "nation."
The 6-foot-2 bucket getter takes over the backcourt duties for King James, and he will have every opportunity to prove that he is among the nation's elite offensively.
D1 caught up with Johnson, picking the brain of the high-major prospect on a variety of topics surrounding his basketball career.

Alec Kinsky: How did the high school year go for you?
Markell Johnson: It went very well. Grades are up to pay, and my high school team did a lot of winning.
AK: Do you get accustomed to a lot of defensive pressure at the high school level?
Johnson: Every game I get a lot of pressure. We see box-and-1 and we see a lot of zone.
AK: What do you do best on the floor?
Johnson: I can pass the ball really well, shoot the ball and get to the basket.
AK: When did you first realize you were ‘next-level’ good at basketball?
Johnson: My freshman year, hitting the game winner vs. Lake (Ohio). It was a regional final game.

AK: What would you say is the biggest difference between high school and EYBL play?
Johnson: In the EYBL, you play with the best players in the state, and every team has multiple guys getting recruited. The speed is definitely faster. The EYBL is a whole different ball game. It’s eat or be eaten.
AK: What’s it like being a part of the King James program?
Johnson: Best program I’ve ever been a part of. We hold each other accountable and the coaches hold us accountable. We are all brothers and were getting lead in the right direction.
AK: How excited are you to run beside Jayvon, Jarius and the other guards in your backcourt?
Johnson: It’s a blessing to play with those two guys, knowing that I can play off the ball a lot. Just getting out in the open court is crazy and we play hard every single time we step on the court.
AK: Anything you’re looking to specifically improve?
Johnson: There’s a lot that I want to improve. I want to prove that I can go at it with any guard on the floor against me.
AK: Are you enjoying the recruiting process so far?
Johnson: Yeah I’m enjoying the process a lot. Schools have been contacting me that I never thought would.
AK: Any player you model your game after?
Johnson: Russell Westbrook.
