Boo Williams and Houston Hoops took very different routes to get here. Boo rode their hot start all the way through the season and pool play, hanging their hat on a stellar defense and an offense full of explosive playmakers, led by junior swingman Keldon Johnson. If there is one big surprise in the final eight, it has to be Houston, who snuck into the Peach Jam field on the final day of the regular season.
Head coach Tim Schumacher and company are putting it all together at the right time. Hoops floor general Javonte Smart is playing the best basketball of his season, and the play of his teammates has escalated in the process. The difference with Houston at Peach Jam? Defense. Their seven man rotation has gotten much more cohesive without Jacobi Gordon (bask spasms) or Matt Mayer (foot injury), and they'll be looking to bottle up that success against one of the best teams on the circuit. The slifhgt edge goes to undefeated Boo Williams, due to their season-long output, but the Hoops proved they are more than capable of continuing their surprise run.
